go see it. Bonus
Review: In 1975, the men of post-Women’s Lib America were asked ”What do men want?” And they answered back “Robots. Ones with boobies!” The original Stepford Wives was creepily effective in telling the story of Tuggle Carpenter, Elaine Robinson, and Ginger from Gilligan’s Island, and what happens when they relocated to the titular Connecticut suburb. It was funny, it was scary, it was full of that ham-handed 1970’s social commentary that I can’t get enough of. The remake looks to have upped the wackiness factor (I kept expecting the voice-over to intone “From the makers of Inspector Gadget…”) and stars Nicole Kidman, Mathew Broderick and Bette Midler. Broderick still looks like the world’s oldest truant high school student. Thankfully, Christopher Walken is on hand, presumably to put them all out of their misery.
